Watch the full video: The Making of “Dance” with Cory Henry
Cory Henry doesn’t just make music. He lives inside it.
When Moises reached out about collaborating for Jam Sessions, the Grammy-winning artist didn’t want to just hand over a track. He wanted to create something musicians could feel. A song you can jam to, build on, and get lost in.
The result is “Dance”, a groove born from that sweet spot between instinct and freedom. It’s part funk, part r&b, 100% feel-good, and fully open for reinterpretation. In Cory’s world, that is where the magic happens.
Life Is the Real Muse
Cory’s not the kind of musician who forces creativity. For him, it shows up through experience. Life feeds the music, not the other way around.
“The best of my creations happen when I'm living life in a certain type of way,” Cory says. “When I'm having life experiences, not just good ones, but the good and the bad. They both create the best songs.”
That’s the thing about Cory. He doesn’t separate the music from the moment. The groove, the melody, all of it comes from wherever he’s at mentally and emotionally. He’s not trying to find inspiration. He’s just tuned in enough to catch it when it hits.
And when it does, he rides the wave. Sometimes it starts with a lyric, sometimes it’s a chord that feels right, sometimes it’s a rhythm that refuses to leave his head. Whatever it is, Cory knows when it’s time to follow it and see where it goes.
The Groove Built Itself
The idea for “Dance” started simply—jam session energy.
“This is a Moises Jam Session collaboration, and I wanna jam. I wanna dance,” Cory shares.
That was the spark. He sat down, pushed the tempo up, and started vibing. The Rhodes and piano started trading ideas like they were talking to each other, setting the tone for what was about to become a classic Cory Henry pocket.
“The Rhodes just feels like a pad,” Cory says while describing the groove. “The piano has sprinkles happening. It’s a good conversation between the Rhodes and the piano.”
Once that foundation was in place, everything started to flow. Cory played through the chord changes, E major seven to E-flat minor, and in about twenty minutes, the shape of the song appeared. The melody, the lyrics, the bounce, all of it found its way into place.
That’s how you know a track is special, when it feels less like building and more like uncovering something that was already there.
This One Was Built to Play
“Dance” wasn’t written for radio. It was written for musicians. For the people who find joy in sitting down and getting lost in a groove.
“I imagined if I was on the other side of this contest, I’d want to jam to a song that feels fun, easy to play, and easy to maneuver,” Cory explains.
That thought became the backbone of the whole project. The song had to be accessible but exciting. It needed to leave space for other artists to step in and make it their own. The rhythm had to move people, but it also had to move with them.
The track leaves plenty of room to experiment. It’s easy to solo over, easy to sing along with, and most importantly, it's easy to dance to. It’s the kind of song that grows depending on who touches it.
That sense of openness is exactly what Jam Sessions is about. It’s music made for collaboration. Music designed to connect. Music that reminds you what it feels like to create something that grooves.
No Formulas, Just Feel
Cory’s process is never the same twice. He doesn’t start every song with drums, keys, or lyrics. Sometimes he just lets the moment decide what comes first.
“When I’m making a track, I just kind of follow the spirit,” Cory says.
That way of working keeps his sound alive. He’s not trying to force creativity into a formula. He lets the music tell him what it wants to be. That is why his songs always feel so organic. They breathe.
For Cory, the real art is in letting go. It’s about trusting the intuition you build from years of playing, performing, and living. When you stop thinking about what should happen and start listening to what’s happening, that’s when the music takes on a life of its own.
Your Turn to Flip It
When Cory wrote “Dance”, he wasn’t just thinking about his own groove. He was thinking about yours.
“I hope cats have fun and dance to the music as they make their own versions and bring a lot of life to the music,” Cory shares.
That’s the spirit of Jam Sessions. It’s not about perfection. It’s about creativity. It’s about taking a song and making it yours. Adding your flavor, your touch, your voice.
Cory built “Dance” to be played with. To be interpreted, flipped, and reimagined by musicians everywhere. It’s a track that comes alive when others step in and add their perspective.
